About Us

Our History

The Myanmar Fishery Products Processors & Exporters Association (MPEA) represents the interests of Myanmar companies that concentrate on global export of fisheries products. The association collates and amalgamates the concerns of different segments and sections of the Myanmar seafood industry.

It’s object is to compile demands and requirements such as standards of food safety pertinent to different regions and markets. Thus sharing with its over 500 members the relevant information and contacts as well as the means to act upon the data.

MPEA also seeks to support the government and international organizations in their aim/objectives to bring about the desired and necessary structural changes in Myanmar. These changes will benefit Myanmar business-simplifying export and enabling the companies to reliably manufacture high quality products with cost effectiveness.

Our Objective

MYANMAR Fishery Products Processor & Exporters Association (MPEA) has been established for the development of producing and exporting fishery product in Myanmar; promoting and supporting to trade in international market with high standard.
This association has been established since 2nd November, 2004 by the guidance of the Government of the Union of Myanmar.

To process fishery product, to cold storage, and to trade it conveniently.

To develop the state’s meat and fish sector and to perform to get foreign earing more;
To alter the procession of the fishery product to meet international standard and market;

To co-ordinate with the respective department to produce fishery product and to advance export works.

To get more attention on trading international fishery product ( food safety) producing and trading;
To operate according to the rules and regulations of the government;
To get the preferable international price of fishery products by discussing information regarding fishery product procession, exporting among members;
To attend and get knowledge both the internal courses of the fishery department and external courses of foreign countries for food safety of the producing fishery products;
To train human resources development for producing fishery product and exporting experience;
To do research work for creating the new export items.

Our Chairperson Message

Heartily welcome to the world of Myanmar Fishery.

You may know well that Myanmar is the largest land country in South East Asia region encompassing three different climatic conditions at the same time and one fifth of the whole country areas, lying along four mighty rivers, are covered yearly with water for four to five months as long as the history remember. So we are capable of producing, processing and trading various kinds of fish and diversified fisheries commodities by all means all the time. Up to a couple of years ago, though we have ample fisheries resources, adequate capacity and accumulated experiences, we could export only ten percent of our annual fisheries production of over four million metric tons to international fish markets, due to unpleasant situation at that period. Since those adverse situations are almost abolished nowadays, resulting from recent changes in policy, coupled with advanced practices, better facilitation and favor in trade, Myanmar fisheries products are going to appear more widely in global markets.
